Guest Lecture: "FinTech: Concepts, Cases and Technology"

Guest lecture
fintechweb3speaking

A guest speaker segment for a course titled FinTech: Concepts, Cases and Technology, given while Jackie was building BorderDollar.

He introduced himself as an ex-academic and serial fintech founder: Forbes 30 Under 30 and Tatler Gen.T, exits from fundMyLife (consumer fintech) and UpLevel (data science training and consultancy), and an early member of the blockchain startup Sentinel Chain.

The agenda:

  • Smart contracts — agreements written in code rather than words, which execute automatically once their conditions are met, live on a blockchain, and are usually public for anyone to inspect. Because they're algorithmically and automatically enforced, nobody can quietly skirt the terms, which saves time and money. They're also the basis of decentralised apps (dApps).
  • New asset classes — NFTs, explained through fungibility: 1 + 1 = 2 for fungible assets, while non-fungible ones can't be swapped one-for-one.
  • Live demo — a walk through OpenSea to show what buying and minting NFTs looks like in practice.
  • Q&A
