November 2023. F'in Tech Innov[ai]te — a GenAI coding challenge held at AWS Singapore during Singapore Fintech Festival week. 36 hours. We came first.
the problem
Retail investing in 2023 had a fragmentation problem. Your portfolio lived in one app, market news in another, financial advice somewhere else entirely — usually behind a paywall or a relationship manager you didn't have. The tools existed, but nobody had connected them into a single, intelligent interface that worked for an everyday investor.
what we built
invest.ai — an AI-powered investment management dashboard that brought together portfolio tracking, market intelligence, and an AI adviser in one place.
The dashboard surfaced what mattered:
- Portfolio overview — total asset value, available balance, unrealised returns, all in one view
- Holdings tracker — individual stock positions (AMZN, AAPL, GOOGL, MSFT) with quantity, current price, and portfolio contribution
- Trend charts — historical portfolio value over time, rendered with ApexCharts for clear year-on-year visualisation
- Allocation breakdown — pie chart showing portfolio distribution by stock
- Live news feed — financial headlines aggregated from Bloomberg, Nikkei, CNA, and other sources, surfaced directly in the dashboard
- AI Adviser — a chat interface for asking investment questions, explained in plain language
- Multi-user support — distinct investor profiles, each with their own portfolio data and analytics
The data layer was built on historical stock price and holdings data, computing per-asset value and total portfolio performance across years.
the stack
HTML, CSS, JavaScript — a fast and deliberate choice given the 36-hour format. ApexCharts for all charting. Bootstrap for the UI scaffolding.
what happened
We won. Champion at F'in Tech Innov[ai]te 2023 — a FinTech GenAI coding challenge run during Singapore Fintech Festival (SFF) week, one of the largest fintech events in the world.
The idea wasn't just a dashboard — it was a bet that GenAI could finally make personalised financial guidance accessible without needing a financial adviser. The AI Adviser piece was what the judges responded to most. Telling someone their portfolio is down 12% is easy. Explaining what that means for their actual life, and what to do about it, is the part that's hard.
